Carlton Release Mugshot Meaning
A booking photograph records appearance during an arrest and booking process. It does not describe what happened later in court. Release on bond leaves the charge pending. A dismissal, sentence completion, probation order, or transfer can produce a different legal context. Minnesota Court Records Online may explain the case outcome, but the court record and the image remain separate records.
Minn. Stat. §13.82, subdivision 26 defines a booking photograph and classifies it as public. An agency may temporarily withhold the photo when access would adversely affect an active investigation. Public classification does not require an agency to create a photo it never made or to retain one forever. The county’s own retention schedule controls the more useful local question of how long a Carlton file is kept.
Juvenile information follows separate limits. The Carlton roster warns that distribution of juvenile data is restricted by Minnesota law. An adult booking-photo rule must not be used to infer access to a juvenile photograph or release record.

Carlton Roster Mugshots Disappear
The Carlton County Jail Roster page links the most recent dynamic PDF. The county says it updates hourly and notes that intake may lag until a booking number is assigned. Verified PDF fields include the mugshot, name, booking number, demographics, held-for authority, arresting agency, booking date and time, charges, next court date, Outdate, and bail information. Those are current-booking fields, not a post-release image index.
The county states no online archive or post-release display period. A photo may vanish when the roster regenerates after the person leaves, but the precise removal timing is not published. The roster’s Outdate label is not defined as an actual discharge date. Do not use the image, Outdate, or later disappearance to claim a release occurred.

Request Carlton Booking Photos
Use the official Carlton County Data Request process and direct the request to Sheriff Records, where Sheriff Kelly Lake is the named responsible authority. These records can help establish which booking and discharge event belong together, yet the property record is not itself a release order. Ask for the photograph and the public date fields that supply its context.
Minn. Stat. §13.82 does not impose retention by itself. It classifies public arrest data and the booking photograph while allowing temporary investigatory withholding. Carlton’s approved schedule addresses the local file duration. These rules should be read together.
Carlton State Release Images
A person booked at Carlton County Jail and later committed to MNDOC may have two different images from two custodians. The county booking photo documents the local arrest. An offender image displayed in the MNDOC Locator belongs to the state corrections record. The Locator covers adults committed to the Commissioner who are incarcerated or released from prison but still under DOC jurisdiction. It is not a county-only booking archive.
Search by first and last name or a complete six-digit MNDOC ID. Use only the exact image and labels shown in a live result. A fully discharged historical case may fall outside the public Locator’s jurisdiction-based coverage even though MNDOC retains underlying records. For an old state photo, request the public offender record from MNDOC Records Management rather than concluding that no image exists.
MCF–Moose Lake is a state prison in Carlton County, but geographic location does not turn its records into sheriff records. Minnesota Haven, not VINE, handles prison notification. The image source must stay tied to the agency and custody stage that created it.
Carlton Mugshots Need Case Context
Use Minnesota Court Records Online to search public Carlton criminal cases by name and other reliable fields. The register of actions may show charge dispositions, dismissal, bond, sentence, jail credit, probation, revocation, or discharge. Minnesota expungement generally seals qualifying records and restricts disclosure. It does not mean every copy is physically destroyed. If a case no longer appears in remote court search, that absence does not prove there was no arrest, booking, image, or release. Follow the court and agency process that applies to the sealed matter. Do not republish restricted material or treat an old nonofficial copy as more authoritative than the current legal status.
